3. Exhaust Smoke

When your car is operating as it should, the exhaust should not produce any visible fumes, unless it is in the winter. Therefore, if you notice smoke coming from your exhaust, that is a good sign that your oil needs to be changed.

4. Oil Smell

If you are driving around and smell oil or gas, then that is a warning sign for an oil change. Essentially, when a smell of oil is mixed with the smell of gas inside the cabin, it suggests overheating and burning oil in the exhaust.

5. Mileage

Mileage is the prime indicator of when oil should be changed. If you are a heavy driver, then aim for changing oil every 3,000 miles. But if you don’t go on long trips, then consider changing the oil every 1,000 miles.
